Winters in Delhi

Almost the entire North India is reeling under winter chill and weather continues to batter the region with freezing minimums and bone-chilling cool winds. Most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are whirling under the frigid cold weather.

The Indo-Gangetic region has remained dry and apart from a few rain and snow episodes that occurred in the hills of North India recently, otherwise, the region has mainly remained dry. In the wake of this prolonged dry spell, the winter chill continues to maintain its intensity.

In fact, in a recent couple of days, a significant drop in the minims have been observed in the plains of North India, particularly in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and NCR and Uttar Pradesh. This has further led to many states recording the lowest minimums of the season so far. Let us look at the lowest minimums recorded by various stations across North India so far on Thursday.

Alwar recorded the minimum at 0.4°C, Udaipur 3.6°C, Meerut 4.2°C, Agra 3.9°C, Gaya 5.2°C and Delhi recorded the night temperatures at 5°C.

In fact, the extent of winter chill this season can be made from the fact that apart from North India, many stations across Central India too reeled under the winter chill and saw the lowest minimum of the season today.

Many stations in Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand such as Gwalior recorded 1.9°C, Khajuraho 2.1°C, Umaria 2.4°C, Mandla 3°C and Daltonganj witnessed 5.1°C.

As per Skymet Weather, for the next 2-3 days also, the winter chill is likely to prevail in these regions especially in parts of North India. No significant changes in the temperature profile are anticipated though it may take a slight dip, chances of any increment in the minimums stand low.

Cold wave and cold day conditions that prevailed in parts of Punjab, Haryana, East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are likely to continue.
