In the month of August, the Manchester of India, Ahmedabad has just received light rains. Not only this, the city has recorded rain in single digits and double digit remained far and few.

With this, we can say that the rainfall intensity has condensed significantly over the city as compared to the rainfall figures of July.

The last 24 hours were also no different as Ahmedabad recorded just light spell to the tune of 9 mm. Prior to this, the city remained dry and no rainfall activity was observed in the past 4 to 5 days.

The last 24 hours light spells can be attributed to the shift of axis of Monsoon trough towards south across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh.

Besides this, a low pressure area is over Vidarbha and adjoining area which is moving in west-northwest direction. Under the influence of this weather feature, Monsoon trough will shift towards Gujarat increasing the moisture levels over Ahmedabad and adjacent region.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, moderate rains are likely over Ahmedabad in the next 2 to 3 days. Temperatures will also register drop due to cloudy sky and rainy spell.

So far in the month of August, Ahmedabad has recorded rains to the tune of 36.2 mm as against its monthly average of 266.2 mm. With just 11 days left, it seems quite a task for the city to surpass or reach near the monthly mean stats.
