Delhi, in the last few days has been sweltering. The day temperatures have shot up, creating some records. According to the data available with Skymet, the Safdarjung Observatory yesterday (Base Observatory for records) saw the maximum settle at 36.9°C, which was the highest for the month of March so far this year. While the Palam Observatory saw the day temperature soar to 38°C during the same period.
Today as well, Delhiites will observe unbearably warm condition. According to the forecast, the day temperature is like to hover around 37°C. The maximum may however settle marginally higher at the Palam Observatory due to its proximity to the Palam airport.
The reason for such a weather in the city can be attributed to the weather systems governing the Indian Mainland. Presently a Western Disturbance is lying over North Pakistan and its adjoining areas as an upper air system. Due to the approach of this Western Disturbance the temperatures have already increased significantly in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh.
Short spell of rain and thunderstorm activities have already been forecast by Skymet over some places in Delhi-NCR during late afternoon hours or evening.
Talking about pollution levels- there is hardly any relief in sight and will continue to settle around the ‘poor’ category.
Some relief for Delhiites will be seen tomorrow morning onward as strong surface winds are expected to blow over the region. This will help in pulling down the temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius.
