Another rainy day for Northeast India, rains to commence over East India from May 2

Most parts of Northeast India and Sub Himalayan West Bengal have been observing moderate rain and thundershower activities, associated with isolated hailstorm and squall since the last 24 hours.

According to the data available with Skymet, Dhubri has recorded 39.7 mm of rainfall, Golaghat 11.6 mm, Guwahati 26.6 mm, while Cherrapunji in Meghalaya has recorded 25.2 mm of rainfall, during the last 24 hours.

Talking about weather system, then the Trough which was extending from East Uttar Pradesh, now lies over Northeast Bihar up to Manipur across Sub Himalayan West Bengal. As a result of this Trough, rain and thundershower activities will continue over many places of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Sub Himalayan West Bengal during the next 24 hours.

On the contrary, hot and humid weather is continuing over Odisha and West Bengal, while Bihar and Jharkhand are experiencing dry and hot weather conditions. These conditions will continue for next 24 to 48 hours and parts of Bihar and Jharkhand may also witness heat wave like conditions.

However, due to the approach of the Cyclonic Storm ‘Fani’, wind pattern will change around May 1. The change in winds will help to reduce humid conditions over the region. Gradually, as the system moves closer to Coastal Odisha, clouding will increase and temperatures will start dropping over most parts of Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.

Places like Gopalpur, Puri, Bhubaneswar , Balasore, Baripada, Medinipur, Kolkata and 24 Parganas will witness rain and thundershowers from May 2 to 5, in association with strong to very strong winds.
