The Western Disturbance and cyclonic circulation that gave rain over Delhi and most parts of North India on January 26 slowly moved eastward affecting Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. The system as reiterated by Skymet has been giving light rain in the region for the last couple of days.
The average rainfall in Bihar and Jharkhand for the month of January is 12 mm. Light rain is usually observed in the region during January but some places have recorded good amounts of rain. In a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Wednesday Daltonganj in Jharkhand has recorded 34 mm of rain, which is rare for the place. This is the highest 24 hour rainfall amount recorded in January in last ten years. The previous highest was 13.7 mm, recorded in January 2010.
Neighbouring Bihar has also observed fairly good amounts of rain. In last 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Wednesday the state capital Patna has received 9 mm of rain. A day earlier, on January 28, the city had observed 2 mm of rainfall. Some other places in the state to have received rain are Gaya and Bhagalpur, where 9 mm and 1.4 mm of rainfall has been recorded, respectively. The last spell of rain that Bihar and Jharkhand had observed in January is during the first week of the month.
East Madhya Pradesh has also been affected by this spell with Jabalpur and Satna recording 3 mm and 8 mm of rain, respectively.
But now the rainfall will diminish as the weather system affecting the region is expected to move towards Northeast India in next 24 hours. The moment it reaches the region, north Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh could receive good amounts of winter rain.
