Brief Respite From Bitter Cold In Bihar, Short Spell Of Rain - Thundershowers Likely

January 29, 2024 4:38 PM |

Bihar has been reeling under terribly harsh cold conditions for the last many days. In the absence of rains, the dry cold has been sweeping the region, punishing the northern half of the state more than the southern one. Motihari,  Madhubani, Bhagalpur, and Gaya recorded less than 4°C temperatures last week. Frost and thick fog intensified the chill resulting in frequent cold day conditions at many places. A twist in the weather conditions is quite likely in the next 3-4 days over the region.

The state of Bihar, like other northern states, is still searching for winter rains. The state has recorded only limited rainfall and is having a deficit of huge 88% rainfall in January. There is a likelihood of scattered rain and showers in many parts of the state in the next about 3 days time. Once again, the rainfall will not be hefty and could just trickle and sprinkle at some of the places. The short spell of rain is likely on 01st February. Some of these places may have another light spell on 05th-06th Feb.

The approaching spell of light rainfall will just be able to break the stigma of prolonged dry weather and otherwise do very little for the farmers and water reservoirs. The minimum temperatures will possibly rise and go into double digits at many places like Patna, Gaya, Chhapra, Purnea, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Champaran and Nawada between 31stJan and 04thFeb 2024. Wind patterns will change to moist easterly over the state, suppressing the cold but increasing the chill factor on account of humidity and breeze.  There could be yet another light spell of rain, close on the heels of the first one, on 05th Feb or so. It is a little early to predict the 2nd one and confirmation of this will come later, after 48 hours or so.
