Updated on Nov 15, 2017 at 10:20 AM: As predicted by Skymet Weather, only light rain occurred over Chennai. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 AM on Tuesday, Nungambakkam observatory of Chennai recorded 7 mm rain, Minambakkam 2 mm of rain. As per weathermen, scattered light rains are in the forecast across Chennai.

Updated on Nov 14, 2017 at 04:30 PM: Now Chennai rains will reduce significantly. The low-pressure area is moving towards Andhra Pradesh. Only isolated light rains are possible over Chennai.

Updated on Nov 14, 2017 at 10:00 AM: Minambakkam observatory in Chennai has recorded 16 mm of rain, Nungambakkam observatory 30 mm, Madurai 13 mm, Pamban 62 mm, Salem 3 mm Puducherry 1 mm in the last 24 hours. A well-marked low-pressure area has moved in a northerly direction and now lies over West Central Bay of Bengal near South Andhra coast. During last, 24 hours moderate rain. As the weather system is moving a northerly direction away from Tamil Nadu coast.

Therefore we expect one or two moderate spells of rain over many parts of Chennai today. Gradually intensity of rains will further decrease and by November 15 we expect only light rain or drizzle over Chennai. Thereafter weather will remain partly cloudy to cloudy and isolated light rain may continue.

Updated on Nov 13, 2017 at 02:00 PM: The low-pressure area over Southwest  Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area. This weather system will now move north-northeasterly direction. Chennai may receive few heavy spells of rain tonight and tomorrow. By November 15 rain intensity over Chennai but scattered light rain will continue thereafter also. One or two short spells intense rains, particularly over northern parts of Chennai, is possible during the next three to fours.

Moderate to heavy rainfall activity is likely to continue until November 14, thereafter the rain intensity will reduce over the region but light rains will continue.

Updated on Nov 13. 2017 at 08:30 AM: In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Nungambakkam observatory in Chennai has recorded a whopping 66 mm of rain while Minambakkam observatory witnessed 25 mm of rainfall.

Chennai rains are increasing in the late night hours as stated by Skymet Weather. One or two short spell of heavy rain and thundershowers are expected in the next two hours over the city. At present, clouding has increased over the area.

Chennai rains are all set to make comeback during the next 24 hours. After battering Chennai with heavy rains with some isolated very heavy rains till November 6, weather had gone dry over the state capital. But now weather models are indicating towards the return of rains.

All thanks to the formation of a fresh low pressure area over Bay of Bengal. The system will gradually move closer to the Tamil Nadu coast, increasing rains over the coastal areas as well as Chennai.

Let us have a look at the rainfall forecast over Chennai and adjoining areas of Tamil Nadu during the coming days.
