Rain in Delhi has abated and sunny weather on Friday led to a rise in day temperatures with Palam reporting 26.5°C. As predicted earlier by Skymet, the reversal of winds has taken place and cool north westerly winds are sweeping across the national capital region. In the next 48 hours, we can expect the night temperatures to come down to single digit from 14°C at present. These winds will blow across the northern plains and extend up to Uttar Pradesh. The cooler winds have been drawn from the hilly areas, after a good spell of rain and snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The Western Disturbance, at present lying over Himachal Pradesh and adjoining areas is moving away from the Indian region. Consequently the spell of rain in North India is over but we can expect some snowfall in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. In the last 24 hours, remnants of the Western Disturbance brought light rain with Dehradun recording 23 mm, Patiala 5 mm and Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh 2 mm.
In the absence of significant rain, Amritsar reported thick fog today morning. The minimum temperature dropped from 10°C on Friday to 5°C. There are no signs of dense fog in Delhi with Palam reporting 1200 meters of visibility. The runway visual range (RVR) was also fairly good at 1300 meters leading to smooth air operations. Fog was confined to east Uttar Pradesh, adjoining Bihar and parts of Northeast India. The general visibility in Gorakhpur was 300 meters, Gwalior 500 meters, Guwahati 1000 meters, and 800 meters in both Patna and Siliguri.
