Cyclone Madi intensified from a severe cyclone yesterday to a ‘very severe’ cyclone last evening but failed to bring any significant change in the weather of the Indian subcontinent as the activity remained confined to the seas.
Meanwhile, the weather forecast at Skymet is indicating towards the weakening of Cyclone Madi. “It isn’t very unusual for a cyclone to intensify and then weaken over the seas itself, before hitting the coast of a country. Cyclone Madi is one such cyclone which though has formed into a ‘very severe’ cyclone, it could lose its strength very shortly. It will therefore have no significant effect on the east coast of India, in terms of heavy rain or strong winds”, informed a senior meteorologists at Skymetweather.com
“Lack of thermal energy and a moderate wind sheer will result in the weakening of Cyclone Madi”, he added further.
After 24 hours, Cyclone Madi is expected to weaken into a severe cyclonic storm and thereafter into a cyclonic storm. The cyclone could then lose latitude and shift southwestwards, a little towards the east coast of India. This development could therefore bring rain in the currently dry South India, after 48 hours.
Further, night temperatures which have dropped by 1 to 3 degrees along the east coast will continue to maintain below normal, in the range of 19 to 21 degrees for the next couple of days, i.e. till clouding remains. Maximums at the coastal stations are currently recording between 28 to 30 degrees and are expected to remain in the same range for a couple of days.
