Foggy mornings have made a comeback over Delhi and the NCR region and residents are not at all happy about it. What seemed like a normal foggy winter knocking morning for more residents has been converted into a smoggy one wreaking havoc over the entire national capital.
Delhi was engulfed in a blanket of smog with visibility reducing to 200 metres. Situation was all the worse today and the residents of the national capital woke to an even more foggy morning. So much so that the visibility had dropped down to 100 metres during the early morning hours at the Palam Airport.

Thereafter, there was some improvement at about 07:30 am wherein the visibility improved to a 600 metres again. However, very soon, dense fog/smog did make a comeback and the visibility once again dropped down to a mere 200 metres. Now, the visibility at the Delhi airport dropped to nil making conditions even worse for residents.
Flight delays have been massive due to these conditions. The Indira Gandhi Airport has as it is been rescheduling flights due to inoperable runways and dense fog added to the air traffic woes. Thus, at least 50 flights were delayed yesterday due to both these reasons.
Not only this, for the past 48 hours, at least 11 trains have been disrupted due to the prevailing smog over the region.
The reason for these conditions can be attributed to light winds, drop in minimums as well as high humidity levels which are main factors responsible for the formation of fog.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, situation will remain the same as westerly-northwesterly winds will continue to blow over the region. Not only this, Delhiites will continue to witness soaring pollution levels as well adding to the woes.
