Delhi NCR under the grip of dense fog, 13 trains delayed

Thick Dense Fog In Delhi

Almost 13 trains coming to Delhi got delayed on Saturday as thick blanket of fog engulfed the national capital territory and its adjoining states. Post recent rains, in Northwest Plains, humid easterly winds changed their direction and are presently blowing from northerly/north-west direction. These winds are cold and dry in nature since they are coming from the Western Himalayas.

The chilly winds have already started bringing down the minimums over Delhi and adjoining areas. Light winds, drop in temperatures and availability of humidity in the atmosphere lead to the formation of fog.

The Cold Wave forced the people to take refuge in the night shelters. As per the records, the maximums and minimums for the day were at 20°C and 11°C, respectively. The minimums now have dropped by 3°C and is around 8°C. Today, the lowest visibility was recorded at Palam Airport at 150 metres from 4.30 am to 8.00 am and sky remain obscured.

The pollution levels seem to hover in and around very poor zone. The dense fog was coupled with poor air quality, thus the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was 309 till 8.00 am which is certainly unhealthy.

According to data provided by SAFAR, major pollutants PM 2.5 was at 131 and PM 10 was at 202, in 'very poor' and 'moderate' categories, respectively. In Lodhi Road area, PM 2.5 was at 234 while PM 10 was at 230, both of which fall in the 'poor' category.
