Delhi Pollution: Air Quality to remain severe in national capital

Delhi Pollution has once again begun to wreak havoc over the national capital. Post Diwali, pollution levels in Delhi and NCR have reached an alarming stage.

Along with this, stubble burning in Punjab, and Haryana; construction sites which are in abundance in NCR area particularly, Gurgaon, Noida, Ghaziabad as well as vehicular pollution bring in smoke particles and add to the misery of the residents. The smoke particles from these sources form a blanket of smoke haze over the city.

Weather conditions over Delhi and NCR have also been contributing to the increasing pollution levels. Since last three to four days, winds have been blowing from southeast direction, Moreover, speed of winds is very less these days. During night winds are almost calm and during afternoon, speed increases but it seldom exceeds 10-12 kmph. Humidity levels are also on a high.

When the Air Quality is severe, it has respiratory impact even on people who are healthy while health impacts are serious on people who are suffering from any kind of lung or heart disease. Even during light physical activities, these impacts are felt.

Now, minimum temperatures are also decreasing gradually over Delhi and the NCR region. They are settling between 16 to 17 degrees Celsius. All these factors including light winds, low temperatures and high humidity lead to formation of mist or shallow fog during morning hours.

In the absence of moderate and intense winds, the particles will remain suspended over the city for longer durations. Thus, pollution levels are expected to remain on a high.

As per Skymet Weather, no relief is expected for the next two to three days as of now. Air quality in many parts of Delhi and NCR will remain severe for quite some time now.
