Delhi Pollution Levels Still High, city continues to choke

This year, the worst smog has blanketed the city of Delhi and NCR region. People have been choking and gasping for fresh air.

Major factors to this fatal smog could be winds which were light since the last week of October. Moreover, Diwali crackers are also to be blamed. The topmost factor is the crop burning in Punjab and Haryana.

Also the temperatures in North India have dropped to the range of 11-14 degree Celsius. When temperatures drops, the air near the surface gets condense. This year it has more capacity to hold the pollutants such as smoke and dust particles close to the ground and due to the calm winds these pollutants remain suspended close to the ground and therefore not move away.

Day by day, pollutants are getting added in the form of vehicular traffic, dust from construction sites, smoke from power plants and factories, along with the smoke that is coming from adjoining states Punjab and Haryana. This is the reason why PM Levels in Delhi are increasing on a continuous basis.

Until and unless there is rain, this smog is not expected to clear away. Other alternatives could be strong winds which carry away and disperse the smog but that too will not completely eliminate it but will give at least some respite to the residents. We expect the wind speed to increase by tomorrow or day after but there is no rain predicted for at least 8-10 days.
