Delhi records highest maximum of season

May 6, 2015 11:47 AM |

Delhi heatIn absence of any weather system, Delhi is being swept by hot and dry northwesterly winds. These winds are coming from the dry and arid lands of Pakistan and Rajasthan, which is why the weather in the city is much hotter. The day temperatures are soaring past the 40°C mark.

For instance, the Palam Observatory saw the maximum temperature settle at a sizzling 42.2°C on Tuesday, while the Safdarjung Observatory recorded a maximum of 40.8°C. These temperatures are the highest of the season so far. The earlier highest of the season was 40.6°C, recorded at the Safdarjung Observatory on April 19.

According to meteorologists at Skymet, these temperatures are going to sustain for another 3-4 days before a Western Disturbance affects Jammu and Kashmir by weekend (May 9). This system is likely to give rain in the hills including parts of Punjab, Haryana, north Rajasthan and Delhi-NCR. This spell is not expected to provide any major relief to the people as the day temperatures will drop only marginally.

According to Skymet, the day temperature in the city settles close to 38°C for the first 8-9 days of the month. From the tenth day onwards there’s a steep rise in temperature. The maximums touch 40°C and sustain for the rest of the month.
