Delhi to receive rain from 6th July; heavy rain predicted in Uttarakhand

Weather forecasts indicate Delhi and almost entire north and northwest will receive rain from the 6th of July and is expected to continue till 9th of July. Rain will be heavy in Uttarakhand on the 6th of July and could get very heavy on the 7th.

Delhi has received only 2mm of isolated rain in the last ten days. But the situation is expected to change now. Chances are that rain may be moderate in intensity in the capital. Thunderstorms will occur, winds will be strong and the high humidity which has been bothering people in the city will not trouble you anymore. Besides this, maximum and minimum temperatures may drop significantly by 4 degree Celsius.

Other than Delhi, most parts of Punjab entire Haryana and parts of west Uttar Pradesh could also receive light rain with moderate spells in some pockets on the same dates. The hotbed of the country, Rajasthan will also witness drop in temperatures as rain may occur at all major towns of Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Kota, Udaipur and Bikaner.

Adverse weather on the other hand, may continue in Uttarakhand. Heavy rain is expected on the 6th and 7th of July which will further aggravate the situation. Rain could be up to 100mm or more at times. There are also chances of heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh and along the entire foothills of Himalayas.

“The monsoon trough which gave heavy rain in central India is now moving towards Gujarat and south and southeast Rajasthan and will curve towards Delhi and the foothills of Himalayas within the next 48hrs bringing heavy rain in almost entire north India”, says Mahesh Palawat, head of the forecasting team at Skymet Weather Services.

So far only a single station in Uttarakhand, i.e. Dehradun has received of up to 936.7mm of rain from 1st June till now whereas state of Punjab shows an excess of rainfall by about 112% so far. Haryana and Delhi together show an excess of rainfall by only about 9% which is likely to increase in the month of July.
