Delhi, UP, Punjab, Haryana gets ready for winter

December 11, 2015 11:23 PM |

Winter in North India'Winter is not here yet'. This may be a famous quote by Emily Bronte but at present it is that one sentiment that has been reverberating in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab. Delhi has started to experience a slight chill since last week but coming few days are likely to bring a further fall in temperatures, welcoming the winter season.

Ten days have already passed in December but locals had to be satisfied with the slight nip in the air and few occasional spells of cold winds till now. However, due to the heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh in last 24 hours, winter is expected to approach North India, rapidly.

Must Read: When does winter begin in India

At present, the minimum temperature over Delhi-NCR is 6 degrees above normal and winter weather is nowhere to be seen. The southwesterly winds coming from the hills of North India have also been humid and warm in nature due to which temperatures have not taken a drastic dip in parts of plains of North India.

Though, after the much-awaited snowfall in the hilly states of North India, winter is likely to set in over the weekend. The icy winds coming from the snow clad mountains are likely to bring a dip in the temperatures that will drop by 4-6 Degrees.  This significant drop will take place in next 48 hours and by 15th December, winter will be here.

Fog to accompany winter

If winter is here then cometh fog! Smog like fog has already engulfed Delhi and adjoining areas. Once winter sets in, a thick blanket of fog is expected to envelop several parts of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Punjab.

Many parts of Punjab and Haryana will receive rain in next 24 hours, increasing humidity levels due to which density of fog is expected to increase over these states.
