Dense fog in Delhi reappears; 15 flights, 78 trains delayed

January 20, 2014 10:04 AM |

Dense fog once again reappeared in Delhi which led to disruption in flight and train operations today. At least 15 flights have been reported to have been delayed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport while about 78 trains were running late till 8:30 am.

According to our forecast similar conditions could again hit flight and train traffic as dense to very dense foggy conditions would continue to be witnessed in these areas during the next two days.

Single digit night temperatures, slow winds and high humidity levels led to widespread fog in Delhi and other parts of northwest plains today. The Western Disturbance in Jammu & Kashmir has moved eastward but has also left a fair amount of moisture in the region to make conditions conducive for the formation of fog in Delhi and other areas.

Approach of another Western Disturbance may help in abatement of fog in Delhi after 48 hours as southeasterly winds would lead to increase in minimum temperatures and also a cloud cover over Delhi would reduce the intensity of fog thereafter.
