Depression in Bay of Bengal intensifies, gets closer

The depression in the Bay of Bengal could intensify into a deep depression in the next two days. The weather system now lies 650 km East Southeast from Chennai, 730 km East Southeast of Nellore and 780 km East Northeast of Nagapattinam at the moment. The weather formation could also take shape as a mild tropical storm but depends on how it strengthens from tomorrow morning onwards.

The weather system is expected to move westwards for a short while before traveling west northwestwards. It could land between Nagapattinam and Chennai by 15th of November night or next morning.

Rain in south India will start increasing within the next 24 hours from now. Some of the places in south and coastal Andhra Pradesh as well as north Tamil Nadu could get rain of up to 60 to 70 mm with winds of 55 to 65 kmhr. This weather will stay in the region over south Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka till 17th of November. Other than the initial burst from 22 to 26 October, rainfall has remained subdued.
