Despite rise in temperatures, no heat wave over Northwest India

May 28, 2022 2:18 PM |

Heat wave has abated most parts of Northwest India from May 23rd. Temperatures of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Western parts of Uttar Pradesh as well as north Rajasthan are near normal or below normal for the last one week. Occasional dust storm, thunderstorms, and rain are not allowing temperatures to increase.

A trough which is extending from Northwest Rajasthan to Bangladesh is also oscillating North and South. Dry northeasterly and westerly winds are not setting up due to the oscillation of the trough and wind direction is changing continuously.

We do not expect any significant weather activity over southern parts of Punjab and Haryana, Delhi, western parts of Uttar Pradesh, and North Rajasthan for at least the next one week. Therefore, there may be a marginal increase in temperatures over these areas.

The chances of heat wave making a comeback are very less. However, due to the continuous flow of westerly winds over western parts of Rajasthan, isolated pockets of West Rajasthan may experience heat wave in the coming days. The number of heat wave will remain less in the month of May over Northwest India in comparison to March and April.
