Early morning fog in Delhi delays 60 flights; condition to get better tomorrow

February 24, 2014 12:24 PM |

Just as we thought that the spell of dense fog has receded from North India, fog in Delhi returned today morning. The general visibility as well as runway visual range dropped to nil for a couple of hours, at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport. The minimum temperature recorded at the Palam observatory in Delhi on Monday morning was 9.3°C. The sun shone brightly in Delhi/NCR, as the day progressed and fog condition could be better tomorrow.

The plethora of flight delays in India returned as 60 flights from Delhi were delayed by more than an hour from 6 am to 9 am. 3 flights to Bhopal from Delhi were cancelled in the morning as visibility in Bhopal also reduced to 50 meters. Another 3 flights to Chandigarh were also cancelled as the lowest visibility reported here was 150 meters.

Fog in India

In view of enough moisture left behind by the spell of rain, several other places in North and Central India witnessed dense to shallow fog. The visibility reduced to 50 meters in Gaya and Bhopal while the visibility was around 100 meters in Amritsar, Khajuraho and Chandigarh. Agra, Gwalior and Allahabad had 500 meters of visibility today morning.

The Indian Meteorology condition will change once again due to the cyclonic circulation forming over Gujarat. According to the latest weather update, scattered clouds are hovering over Saurashtra and Kutch region, which will bring rain in madhya Maharashtra and parts of Madhya Pradesh including Indore and Bhopal from the 25th of February. The system will gradually shift eastwards covering Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas.  The cyclonic circulation will change the wind patterns which in turn will affect the temperature across North and Central India.
