Good rains have been going on in many parts of Uttar Pradesh since the last few days. During the last 24 hours, rainfall activity has picked up pace. A few places like Bahraich, Bareilly and Gorakhpur have received heavy rains in the last two days.

A Low-Pressure Area persisting over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar has now intensified into a Well-Marked Low-Pressure Area and will gradually move in west-northwest direction. At present, a Trough is passing through this system, which will also move further in northerly direction.

Thus, rains will now intensify over northern districts of Uttar Pradesh. Places like Nazibabad, Meerut, Gorakhpur, Mehboobnagar, Saharanpur, Baharaich, Balrampur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Siddharthnagar will receive heavy to very heavy rains. Flood-like situations cannot be ruled out in these areas. Rivers like Ramganga, Gomti, Sharda, Rapti might swell.

These torrential rains are expected until July 15 and will decrease thereafter. Gradually, the Trough will also shift towards the foothills of the Himalayas leading to an increase in rainfall activity. Rains will also increase over the foothills of Uttarakhand, further aggravating the situation in Uttar Pradesh.
