Flooding rains likely over Assam, Meghalaya Arunachal, Nagaland

Northeast India has been a poor performer this time with fairly large deficiency during the Monsoon season and has not seen any recovery even towards the fag end of the season.

The best performers had been Mizoram and Tripura while the least rainy were Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.

The usual rainiest pockets have been the most deficient exceeding the deficiency level to -30 %. As of now, state-wise, only Mizoram is surplus even Tripura has slipped to negative. Meanwhile, the state of Manipur has been the worst performer with 53 % of deficiency. Manipur is also the most deficient state in the country as of now.

On the other hand, Northeast India is known for floods and this season is no different wherein several states saw flooding condition in the past days. In fact, the state of Assam is reeling under flooding conditions even now.

These floods occur on account of increased rainfall along with rainfall in catchment areas and overflowing of rivers. All the rivers that flow through Northeast India are tributaries of Brahmaputra and bring huge volumes of water from neighbouring countries.

Break Monsoon period also gets rainfall over Northeast India when the axis of Monsoon trough shifts, and copious rains take place. However, this time no significant break Monsoon period has been observed.

During the next few days, Monsoon systems will remain limited to the Bay of Bengal and will not reach deep into Northern parts of the country. After the present system, in the coming days another system is expected to come up which will not be a strong one, but it will continue to lie in the proximity of the coast affecting states of West Bengal and Northeast India.

Moreover, Northeast India is expected to see hefty rainfall activities between Sep 6 and 10 with some flooding rainfall over many areas of the Northeastern states. Moreover, the region may see some floods in some states wreaking havoc over the region.
