July 19, 2016 8:58 AM |

uttar-pradesh-floodsThe foothills of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have been flooded by incessant Monsoon rains. We can blame it on the axis of Monsoon trough which is passing through Amritsar, Karnal, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Patna, Malda and thence eastwards to Manipur.

This trough had been copiously drenching the state of Uttarakhand as well. However, rains have now reduced in the hilly state.

There is also a Western Disturbance, moving across the Jammu and Kashmir region towards Tibet. The flood situation in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar has also been enhanced by overflowing rivers in Nepal. Whenever it rains incessantly in Nepal, the two states of India mentioned above gets badly affected.

According to media reports heavy rains claimed 15 lives and injured 40 people in Uttar Pradesh over the last two days. Normal life has been affected immensely while the major rivers are swelling above the danger mark.

Three people were electrocuted and died in Aligarh when a live wire snapped and fell on the roof of their house. Four others were buried in house collapse incidents in different parts of the state.

The worst affected districts include Lakhimpur-Kheri, Bahraich, Sitapur and Deoria. In these places, flood waters have washed away several houses, damaged roads and inundated large farmlands.
