Forecast of cool nights and hot days in Delhi

March 12, 2014 12:49 PM |

With approximately 29 mm of rain received so far in the month of March, figures of rain in Delhi have been way above the normal average of 13 mm. However, latest weather update by Skymet’s Meteorological Division in India suggests that the weather in Delhi will turn dry and hot with maximums hovering around 30⁰C. On the other hand, early mornings and nights could be cool and very pleasant for the next two to three days.

“Heavy precipitation of over 100 mm in Jammu and Kashmir coupled with good amounts of rain in other parts of North India including Delhi last night, have led to a considerable drop (up to 3 degrees) in the minimum temperatures in the region”, said G.P Sharma of Skymet’s Meteorological Division.

“As a result of drop in the minimums, nights will be quite cool in Delhi and North India for the next 48 to 72 hours. Minimums will settle between 12⁰C and 13⁰C. Places like Amritsar and Hisar could be way cooler than Delhi in view of their terrain”, added the senior meteorologist of Skymet’s Meteorological Division..

The minimum temperature in Delhi today settled at 13.5⁰C, while in Amritsar and Hisar, the morning minimums settled at 7.4⁰C and 10.5⁰C respectively.

While light jackets could be required at night, one would feel like switching on the fan during the day. Afternoons will be hot for almost a week and maximums could rise to settle between 28⁰C and 30⁰C in the absence of any weather system. The weather in Delhi on Holi is also expected to be hot, dry and sunny with some patchy clouds.

"However, a weather system is expected to approach Delhi and North India either on the night of 17th March or the morning of 18th March and give rain in the region. Though it is too early to make such predictions, we will keep updating our readers on any weather changes that lie ahead," says Mahesh Palawat of Skymet’s Meteorological Division.
