The temperatures of Maharashtra that were witnessing new heights almost every other day have dropped significantly. From settling close to or above the 45-degree mark, they are now seen resting in mid-40’s.
The reason for this drop in the mercury levels over parts of Maharashtra can be attributed with isolated rain and thundershowers that occurred at a few parts of the state. However, despite these rains, isolated pockets of Vidarbha and Marathwada like Bramhapuri, Chandrapur and Parbhani continued to reel under heatwave like conditions.
The temperatures of Konkan remained under check and in mid-30’s while Madhya Maharashtra region saw the mercury levels settling in upper 30’s.
On the other hand, the temperatures in most parts of Madhya Maharashtra remained near the 40-degree mark with the Konkan division witnessing the mercury levels settling in mid-30’s.

As per Skymet Weather, as of now also, isolated thunderstorm activity is likely to continue in isolated parts of Vidarbha for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, by the evening of May 16, most parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra and South Konkan region can brace for some scattered rain and thundershowers.
Thus, the stations like Nagpur, Nashik, Pune, Akola, Solapur, Vengurla, Ratnagiri, Washim, Kolhapur, and Sangli may get to witness these scattered rain activities. On the other hand, North Konkan region including Mumbai, Thane, Alibag would continue to remain dry.
These rains would be on account of the trough which is extending from northwest Rajasthan to Madhya Maharashtra across West Madhya Pradesh.
At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:
Farmers are advised to maintain adequate soil moisture to reduce the impact of heat stress on summer crops with irrigation scheduled at about 6 days interval. Farmers should also irrigate the crops in the early morning or late afternoon in Orange and Mango orchards to reduce solar heat stress.
Farmers should also harvest the matured pulse crop early in morning or late in evening and dry it for 3 to 4 days in sunlight. Farmers are also recommended to store dried grain in a proper manner. In view of isolated rain/ thundershowers over the state, farmers should keep the harvested produce in safer place.
