Good rains lash Madhya Pradesh

August 30, 2015 1:45 PM |

Good rains lash Madhya PradeshGood rains have been observed over western parts of Madhya Pradesh during the Monsoon season so far. Thus, the region has been running surplus in terms of rainfall. On the other hand, East Madhya Pradesh is 21 per cent rain deficient. However, fairly widespread rain over the region on Saturday is expected to improve the rainfall deficiency.

According to the rainfall data available with Skymet, Khandwa in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday recorded a good 55 mm of rainfall. While Guna observed 50 mm of rain, Betul (41 mm), Khajuraho (49 mm), Umaria (45 mm), Ujjain (44 mm), and Indore (18 mm).

These rains are attributed to a low pressure area which was over Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Now the system is moving in an eastward direction but it will continue to impact central parts of the country for another 48 hours.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall will continue to impact many parts of Madhya Pradesh. However, rain intensity will decrease by September 3. But parts of East Madhya Pradesh will continue to receive scattered rain. Many parts of Madhya Pradesh including Sagar, Satna, Damoh, Rewa, Siddhi, and Umaria are dependent on rains for agriculture. These rains will be helpful for standing crops as well.
