Monsoon Rains in Maharashtra

In the last 24 hours, fairly widespread rains have occurred over Maharashtra. The intensity of rains was heavy to very heavy over Vidarbha and adjoining parts of Marathwada. Konkan and Goa continued to witness moderate to heavy showers. However, the intensity of rains remained comparatively less over Madhya Maharashtra but almost all the districts recorded rains.

In the past 24 hours, Pune, Jalgaon, Nagpur, Dahanu, Mahabaleshwar, Mumbai, and Ratnagiri recorded 24.7 mm, 8 mm, 16.8 mm, 44.5 mm, 74.8 mm, 34.2 mm and 34.5 mm of rains, respectively.

The rains over Vidarbha and adjoining Marathwada were due to a Well-Marked Low-Pressure Area which was over Chhattisgarh and its adjoining areas.

A persistent Cyclonic Circulation over South Gujarat and adjoining North Arabian Sea is responsible for giving good rains over Konkan and Goa. In the past 24 hours, Santa Cruz recorded 34 mm and Colaba saw 52 mm of rains.

Forecast:

Experts now foresee scattered moderate to heavy rains over North Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Konkan and Goa for the next 24 hours. While the intensity of rains is likely to decrease over Vidarbha and scattered rains will be a sight over the same until July 5. However, Konkan and Goa would continue to witness good rains until July 8. Post this, the intensity is likely to drop.

It is expected that Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri might continue to witness moderate to heavy showers with intermittent light rains to continue over South Madhya Maharashtra.
