As per Skymet’s forecast, good Monsoon rain has been observed in parts of Maharashtra, especially Vidarbha, in last 48 hours due to which rainfall deficiency has seen a drop. While rainfall deficiency has come down to 14% from 17% in Vidarbha, it has reduced to 26% from 30 for Konkan & Goa. Due to a Monsoon system prevalent over Central India, Vidarbha, Marathwada and northern parts of Telangana will continue to receive moderate rain.

Moreover, another Monsoon system is likely to develop in the Bay of Bengal which will give good Monsoon rain over Central India and Vidarbha and Marathwada from 26th-28th July. Due to a quick succession of Monsoon systems in Bay of Bengal, on and off showers will continue in these parts till the end of July.

As per Skymet’s forecast, Vidarbha and parts of Madhya Maharashtra have received good Monsoon rain in 24 hours and the activity is likely to continue for another day or so. Favourable conditions for good rainfall activity are prevalent over Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra and parts of Marathwada.

Several parts of Maharashtra saw excess rainfall until the beginning of July that turned into deficit as July approached. With Marathwada witnessing 49% deficit rainfall till date and Konkan & Goa and Madhya Maharashtra following closely, the scare of scanty rainfall during July was looming large. However, amidst the worries of scanty rainfall, all pockets of Maharashtra have received good rainfall with forecast for more in coming days.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, this continuous rainfall for three to four days is also expected to arrest the rainfall deficiency in Madhya Maharashtra (-33%), Vidarbha (-17%), Konkan & Goa (-30%), and Marathwada (-49%), thereby bringing it down gradually as second half of July approaches.

Major cities like Mumbai, Pune, Akola and Nagpur were battling dry weather conditions since the beginning of July, making it highly discomforting for the residents. Farmers in Vidarbha and Marathwada regions were also reeling under serious bereavement of rain that has been affecting the sowing of major Kharif crops.

However, in the coming days, Skymet forecast rain and thunder showers in most places in north and south Konkan, a few places in north and south central Maharashtra, west and east Vidarbha, as well as few places in Marathwada. The Monsoon surge which is active over West Coast is likely to bring some more rain over Maharashtra and provide relief from the inclement humid weather.
