Heavy Monsoon rains to revisit flood-hit Uttar Pradesh, Bihar

July 30, 2016 8:17 AM |

Rain in Uttar PradeshUttar Pradesh and Bihar have been witnessing light to moderate rains for the last couple of days. However, heavy Monsoon showers are now all set to lash the region again, particularly the foothills.

According to Skymet Weather, intensity of rains has already shown slight rise during the last 24 hours. Lucknow has recorded 30 mm of rain in span of 21 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, followed by Bahraich 27 mm, Bareilly 10 mm, and Gorakhpur 6 mm.

As per weathermen, the axis of Monsoon trough will once again oscillate in north direction towards the foothills of Himalayas. At present, it is running across the Indo-Gangetic plains. This will be primarily responsible for the vigorous Monsoon conditions over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

In addition to this, the Western Disturbance that is moving across Jammu and Kashmir will also shift eastwards. This will further enhance the rain activity. With this, heavy to very heavy rains will again make a comeback over the foothills of Himalayas during the next 24 hours.

Increase in rains will worsen the flood situation that has been already grim. Most of the local rivers such as Ghagra, Sharda and Rapti are already flowing above the danger levels. All thanks to the torrential rainfall in Nepal.

Districts of Bihar such as Kishanganj, Purnea, Saharsha and Saupal are reeling under the floods. In Uttar Pradesh, districts like Rampur, Pilibhit, Bahraich, Maharajganj and Khushinagar are presently battling the floods.
