Heavy rain likely in many districts of Odisha

The depression formed in the Bay of Bengal has weakened after giving rain in many states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. A Cyclonic Circulation lies over North Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas. A low pressure line is coming from this cyclonic circulation towards North Coastal Odisha.

Due to this, heavy rain of 124 mm has been recorded in Puri and 100 mm in Gopalpur during the last 24 hours. Kalingapatnam has recorded 43 mm of rainfall, Bhubaneshwar 33 and Chandbali 17 mm.

During the next 24 hours, there is a possibility of rain and thundershowers at many places in Khorda, Puri, Cuttack, Bhubaneshwar, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Angul, Jajpur and Kendrapara districts.

Odisha has received 30% below normal rainfall between November 1 and November 12. The average rainfall during this period is 117.9 mm, while Odisha has received only 90.2 mm so far. Rain is possible in many districts of Odisha during next 24 to 48 hours.

A new low pressure area has formed over South Andaman Sea which will intensify into a depression and move towards Andhra Pradesh coast. Between November 17 and 19, once again heavy rains are possible in many districts of Odisha. These rain activities occurring in the month of November will take the average rainfall of Odisha to above normal.
