Heavy rains in Supaul, Gaya, Patna, Lucknow, Allahabad; Floods likely

The state of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have been receiving moderate to heavy rains. As per Skymet Weather, the axis of Monsoon trough is running close to the foothills of Himalayas. It is anticipated that Monsoon condition will be vigorous over Bihar and North Uttar Pradesh.

Heavy rainfall is expected over northern and eastern parts of Bihar and moderate to heavy rains are likely over North Uttar Pradesh. However western parts of Uttar Pradesh will remain dry and humid with partly cloudy sky conditions. Rest parts of both the states will witness active monsoon conditions with light to moderate showers.

These moderate to heavy spells are likely to continue for the next 36 to 48 hours. Thereafter, rainfall will gradually decrease over both the states. Cities in Bihar such as Kishanganj, Araria, Madhubani, Supaul, Purnia, Muzaffarnagar, Champaran and Bhagalpur will witness heavy rainfall activities in the next 36-48 hours. While Patna and Gaya will receive light to moderate intensity rains.

In the similar manner, Khushinagar, Saraswati, Balrampur, and Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh will witness heavy rains. While, Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi will continue to witness light to moderate intensity showers.

Due to the very heavy rainfall activities over Nepal and adjacent areas, also in the wake of heavy spells in these two states, flood conditions are likely over the eastern parts Uttar Pradesh also including the northern parts of Bihar. The sea and other water bodies in these two states will swell due to heavy fall thus leading to flood-like situation.

In the past 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday, Farbesganj in Bihar witnessed extremely heavy rain of 252.2 mm, Supaul 86.2 mm, Purnia 40 mm, Patna 8.2 mm and Gaya 11.4 mm. In the same span of time, Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh received 21 mm of moderate rain while, Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Fursatganj and Shahjahanpur witnessed very light intensity of rains.
