Northeast India Rains

The northeastern region of the country has been one area where good Pre-Monsoon rains have been constantly making an appearance. So much so that some places have been witnessing isolated heavy spells as well. Thus, rainfall activity has been making an appearance over the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Tripura.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, the highest rains were seen in Agartala to the tune of 75.8 mm, Cherrapunji recorded a whopping 58 mm of rainfall while Silchar recorded a good 36 mm of rains.

Other places to have recorded good rains include Itnagar 31 mm, Aizawl 23 mm, Lengpui 21.4 mm, Goalpara 19 mm, Majbat 18 mm, North Lakhimpur 16 mm, Guwahati 15 mm, Dibrugarh 14 mm, Imphal 13 mm, and Tezpur 10 mm.

These rains can be attributed to a multiple number of weather systems affecting the region. One of them is the anti-cyclone in the West Central Bay of Bengal which has been providing moisture over the region. A cyclonic circulation is also seen over Sub Himalayan West Bengal ad adjoining areas. From this system, a trough has also been extending up to Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Now, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, these weather systems will continue to give light to moderate rains with isolated heavy showers over northeast India for the next few days.
