September 27, 2019 9:52 AM |

Monsoon in Bihar

As had been forecast by Skymet, rains have increased over Bihar since last two to three days. Moderate to heavy spells have occurred over many parts of Bihar during the last 24 hours as well. While Gaya received 22 mm of rains, Patna received 18 mm and Bhagalpur recorded 12 mm of rain.

At present, the Trough is extending from western parts of Uttar Pradesh to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal across Bihar. Moreover, a Cyclonic Circulation is over North Bay of Bengal.

Therefore, we expect moderate rains with a few heavy spells to continue over Bihar until September 30. Although rain intensity will vary over the days, specifically heavy rains are being forecast for September 29 and 30 over many parts of Bihar. However, till then, i.e. today and tomorrow Bihar may witness light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells.

Already many parts of Bihar are reeling under flood-like situation. Due to these ongoing rains, water level in most of the rivers has risen considerably leading to widespread flooding. After September 30, rains will subside once again over Bihar and the situation will gradually improve.

Although looking at the rain figures, Bihar is still running rain deficient as of now. These ongoing rains will for sure decrease the deficiency figure to some extent.
