Rains have once again returned to parts of Northwest India and just like last spell, this spell would too stay for a prolonged period. According to Skymet Weather, there would be widespread rain and thundershowers, covering entire Indo Gangetic plains during the course of the next two days.

In fact, light rains have already been witnessed during the last 24 hours across parts of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. Both the intensity and spread of rains is going to gradually today.

As per the weathermen, once again the situation has become ideal for an extended spell of rain over the hills as well as the plains of Northwest India. These showers would also be accompanied with strong winds and hailstorm at many places.

An active Western Disturbance is marked over Jammu and Kashmir, which has induced a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and adjoining areas. Both the systems are moving in tandem and whenever such situation arises, the pace of these systems also become sluggish, leading to prolonged spell of weather activities.

On February 6, we can expect light to moderate rains over many parts Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. Parts of Uttar Pradesh and northern half of Rajasthan including Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Barmer and Phalodi would also see good spells of rains. However, rains would be mostly confined to later part of the days, preferably during the evening hours.

However, intensity of rains would peak on February 7, when we would see heavy rains lashing many parts of the northwestern plains. We can expect moderate rains at most places with some heavy spells. Hailstorm is also expected during this time, which might be dangerous for crop across the region.

Delhi-NCR would also see good rains tomorrow, which would be conducive in bringing huge respite from rising pollution levels. Last time i.e. around January 22-23, rains had washed away the pollutants from the atmosphere and AQI (Air Quality Index) levels were settling fair to moderate category. Similar situation is likely to come again.

Cities like Lucknow, Agra, Kanpur, Bareilly, Amritsar, Meerut, Ambala, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Patiala, Karnal, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Sikar would also good spells during the next 2-3 days.
