Heavy showers to continue along West Coast of India

June 13, 2015 7:33 PM |

Rain in West CoastFairly widespread good showers with heavy in isolated pockets will continue along the west coast of India. Thanks, to the off-shore trough along the Western Ghats. Most parts of the west coast, right from Surat to Thiruvananthapuram, will receive good showers during next 24 hours. However, coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa will receive more rain than Kerala.

During the four month-long Monsoon season, the West Coast and Northeast India are the two rainiest pockets. And along the west coast, coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa are the rainiest pockets. For instance, Mumbai receives an average of 523 mm of rain in the month of June, while Mangalore in coastal Karnataka receives 1044.5 mm of average rainfall. This could be attributed to the terrain, which frequently gives rise to vortices. These vortices (weather systems) are responsible for enhancing the rainfall activity.

Monsoon 2105
The Monsoon current covered Konkan & Goa by June 8 and since then we have been seeing good showers. The table below shows the rainfall records of different places along the west coast since June 8, 2015.
