Gujarat Heatwave

The state of Gujarat has been witnessing intense summer heat for the past two days or so. Temperatures which were settling close to the normal levels have risen significantly. Even the coastal stations wherein the weather remains better than the interior parts have seen the maximums going beyond the 40-degree mark.

Moreover, heatwave conditions have gripped many parts of Gujarat and no relief is in sight for the residents.

Yesterday, the maximum at Veraval settled at a whopping 41°C which is 9 degrees above normal, Porbandar 40.9°C (8 degrees above normal), Surat 40.8°C (5 degrees above normal), Rajkot 40°C (4 degrees above normal), Bhuj 40.2°C (4 degrees above normal), Amreli 40.0°C (3 degrees above normal), Nalia 39.5°C (6 degrees above normal), Ahmedabad 39.3°C (3 degrees above normal), Kandla 38.5°C (5 degrees above normal), Dwarka 37.4 (9 degrees above normal), Deesa 38.8°C (3 degrees above normal).

Weather conditions are expected to follow a similar trend during the next 48 hours and no respite from the sky-high maximums are expected.

The state of Gujarat has a few pockets that lie in the coastal areas as well where the discomfort level goes further high and heatwave takes a gigantic shape in these places. This time, temperatures have gone a little too high slightly early as we are only in the fourth week of March.

As compared to other areas, Gujarat becomes vulnerable to heatwave conditions more frequently. The state shares its boundary with Pakistan on one side, West Rajasthan on the other along with Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh on the other two. All these areas are prone to heating up making Gujarat more vulnerable to intense heat.
