Light to moderate rain begins in parts of Rajasthan

February 13, 2019 6:45 PM |

At present, an induced Cyclonic Circulation has developed over Northwest Rajasthan along with a Confluence Zone over eastern parts of the state. The system has begun giving light scattered rains over many parts of Rajasthan. The intensity will remain light with few moderate spells initially. On February 14, the rain intensity will increase further. Chances of hailstorm activities are also very bright.

Much anticipated rain

This Winter season, rain pattern has been quite varied for both West and East Rajasthan. West Rajasthan has received sporadic rains due to the formation of induced Cyclonic Circulations as numerous Western Disturbances have approached Western Himalayas recently. Not to mention, West Rajasthan is running rain excess by a total of 48%. East Rajasthan too has received on and off rains, but rains were comparatively less. Therefore, the area is rain deficient by 10%.

Places receiving rain

This rainy spell is much anticipated as rains are expected in eastern parts of the state this time. Places like Jhunjhunu, Churu, Sikar, Alwar, Jaipur, Dholpur, Sawai Madhopur, Ajmer, Tonk, Bundi, Baran and Chittorgarh may receive scattered rain and thundershower activities during this spell. On the other hand, weather over Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jalore, Pali and Sirohi will remain dry.

By February 15, weather systems will start moving eastwards and rain will start decreasing. However, on February 15, a few isolated pockets will still be receiving light rains. By February 16, weather in entire Rajasthan will become dry and northerly winds will once again bring back the winter chill to the region

Cold weather ahead

We expect minimum temperatures to drop over Western Rajasthan in particular after 48 hours, due to the commencement of Northerly winds. Night temperatures will fall by about three to five degrees.
