Updated on April 29, 2016 4:00 PM (IST): Some more days of heatwave in Kerala before brief respite
The saga of heatwave continues in Kerala. On Thursday, maximum temperature in Kozhikode was 39.1°C, which is 5°C above normal average. We expect heatwave like condition to prevail in the state for next couple of days. However, May will commence on a rainy note in the city.

As have been predicted earlier by Skymet, Kerala continues to witness heatwave conditions.
At present Kannur is 5 degrees above normal at 39.2°C, surpassing the earlier all-time highest temperature record of 38.3°C observed on April 16, 1998. Here is a list of temperatures recorded by Skymet AWS in several districts of Kerala on April 27:
No chances of any rain in Kerala, at least for another couple of days.
Updated on April 27, 2016 12:20 PM (IST): Kerala records highest temperature in almost 3 decades
The pre-Monsoon season in North India extends from April to June while in Peninsular India pre-monsoon activity begins in March itself. Kerala being a coastal region mainly witnesses warm and humid conditions during the pre-Monsoon season. However, heatwave is a rare probability.
This year has been excruciatingly hot with most of the places breaking heat records. Even Kerala has not been left behind. The state has been witnessing hot and dry conditions, particularly during the last few days. So much so that Malampuzha in Kerala recorded the highest temperature in 29 years at 41.8°C on Tuesday. Malampuzha is located near Palakkad, in the rain shadow area.
The tale of record-breaking heat has been continuing for the last two weeks. On April 20,21 and 22, Kozhikode recorded 38.9°C, which is the all-time highest in 49 years. Previously, the all-time highest was 37.2°C, which was registered on April 14, 1967.
At present Kannur is at 37.7°C. On April 15, the city had recorded 38.3°C, highest in last 10 years.

Rain in Kerala
As have been said earlier, Kerala has hardly received any pre-Monsoon showers. Here’s a look at the cumulative pre-Monsoon rainfall figures in the state from March 1 to April 27:
In the coming days, pre-Monsoon activity will rise in Kerala. Good showers are likely on the first two days of May. However, this spell of rain will not be good enough to bring significant respite from the intense heat.
