Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, Bardhaman and Nadia to witness pre-Monsoon rains

During the last 24 hours, Gangetic West Bengal witnessed dry and very warm weather conditions over most places. However, pre-Monsoon rains were also recorded over isolated places. In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Sri Niketan recorded 6.4 mm of rain, followed by Panagarh 0.4 mm.

In Sub-Himalayan West Bengal weather was warm and humid during the day followed by light to moderate rains in few parts.

These weather activities occurred due to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over East Bihar. And a trough extending from this circulation to Odisha across Jharkhand. Warm and moist winds are affecting over the state from Bay of Bengal, which is increasing humidity levels over the area.

Due to accumulation of moisture over Gangetic West Bengal, eastern districts of Gangetic West Bengal will see short spell of rain and thundershower activities during the next 6 to 12 hours. Rest all parts of the state will remain dry.

Weather Alert: Short spell of rain and thundershower activities accompanied with strong gusty winds will occur over some places of Bardhaman, Howrah, Hooghly, Kolkata, Nadia, North Twenty-Four Parganas and South Twenty-Four Parganas the districts of West Bengal during next 2 hours.

Further, between May 23 and 24, due to increase in clouding over the area, temperatures over parts of West Bengal will fall and on May 24, pre-Monsoon rains will commence.
