Landslide near Vaishno Devi wreaks havoc, 4 deadHeavy rains in the state of Jammu and Kashmir has wreaked havoc over the residents. So much so that these showers have triggered a landslide near the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in Reasi.

In this tragic incident, four people have lost their lives, three of which are pilgrims and one of them was merely five years old. Another was a ponywalla aged 32. Nine others have also been injured and are two of them are currently being treated at the Kata hospital. The other seven were given first aid on the spot.

Landslide occurred close to midnight at Banganga-Ardhkuwari road. Large rocks fell over a shelter where pilgrims were resting.

At present, the Yatra has been resumed once again as rescue operations began during the late night hours only.

The state of Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing heavy rains as a Western Disturbance is currently in close proximity to the region. During the next 24 hours, the hilly states of North India are expected to receive more rains, which is why residents residing in higher reaches should remain alert at all times.

Usually, these hilly areas are prone to landslides and even heavy rains for a short period of time result in a lot of damage.
