Mahabaleshwar has been receiving good showers for the last two to three days. In fact, Mahabaleshwar has observed three digit rainfall many times since the onset of Monsoon.

In fact, during last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Mahabaleshwar witnessed a whopping 410 mm rainfall. This is considered to be the second highest single day rainfall in a decade, during the month of August. The highest of 490 mm of heavy rainfall was recorded on August 11, 2008.

Being situated on the Western Ghats, rainfall average for these areas are generally very high. Monthly average rainfall in Mahabaleshwar is 1778.4 mm for August. Till date, Mahabaleshwar has recorded 915.4 mm rainfall.

Monsoon surge is active over Konkan & Goa and an offshore trough is also seen running from South Gujarat to Karnataka coast. Therefore, possibility of a few heavy to extremely heavy showers for another 2-3 days for the city cannot be ruled out. Thereafter, rain intensity is likely to decline but on and off rains are still expected to lash Mahabaleshwar.
