Moderate rains possible in East India for next 24 hours

September 2, 2016 12:53 PM |

Rain in Uttar Pradesh

From last few days, the regions of East India including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand has been witnessing decent showers.

In fact, in a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Thursday, Bihar witnessed light spells with moderate showers at one or two places. Supaul witnessed whopping 73.8 mm showers, Purnea 4.2 mm and Forbesganj recorded 2.4 mm spells.

During the similar time frame, Ranchi in Jharkhand witnessed moderate showers of 18.8 mm. While few places in Uttar Pradesh recorded light to moderate spells. Agra witnessed 27.5 mm rains, Allahabad 14 mm, Gorakhpur 12.4 mm, Aligarh and Muzaffarnagar recorded light spells of 4.2 mm and 3.6 mm respectively.

The reason for these showers can be attributed to an axis of Monsoon trough moving close to north Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Further this trough is likely to shift towards the northeast states.

This trough is thereafter likely to move further along the foothills. These rains are expected to intensify. Hence, it can be said that moderate to heavy rains are a possibility over foothills. However, chances of isolated heavy with very showers are also a possibility over the area.

This would result in light spells to continue over the southern parts along the trough line for another 24 hours. Gradually, these rains are likely to reduce.

Another north-south trough is also seen moving in the lower level from Bihar to Chhattisgarh across Jharkhand. Moreover, South Jharkhand is also expected to witness moderate rain-thundershowers. The intensity of rains over the region would intensify further.

Adjoining West Bengal is also likely to receive similar weather conditions.
