Southwest Monsoon has brought vigorous rains along the foothills of the Himalayas, right from Uttarakhand to Arunachal Pradesh.
As of now, the Monsoon trough has shifted a little south of the foothills of the Himalayas. It can be seen passing through Ferozepur, Hisar, Gwalior, Khajuraho, Pendra, Bhubaneswar, and further towards the central parts of Bay of Bengal.
During last 24 hours, heavy to very rainfall occurred at isolated places over Uttarakhand. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam have received good Monsoon rains. Foothills of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have also received good amounts of rainfall.
During last 24 hours, Tehri in Uttarakhand received 167.7 mm of rainfall, Nainital 45.5 mm and Pithoragarh 72.2 mm. In Arunachal Pradesh, Pasighat recorded 147 mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Saturday.
Bagdogra situated in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal received 279.8 mm of rainfall while Cooch Behar received 88.6 mm. Jalpaiguri also recorded heavy showers of 75.3 mm.
Uttarakhand will continue to receive heavy rainfall during the next 24 to 48 hours. Rainfall will gradually reduce over Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh after 24 hours.
However, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal will continue to receive heavy rains. In this region, rivers have reached the danger mark. Flood-like situation can be seen over places like Cooch Behar, North Dinajpur and Jalpaiguri. After 24 hours, we can expect the rains to ease out a little. Rains will reduce gradually over Northeast India as well.
