Monsoon Depression Moves Over Madhya Pradesh, Weakens To Low Pressure Area

September 12, 2022 2:46 PM |

Monsoon depression lying earlier over Odisha and Chhattisgarh, has moved northwestward.  The system was still marked as a depression in the morning, centered about 80km southwest of Raipur. Depression has since weakened to a low pressure area marked over central parts of Madhya Pradesh. It is expected to move very slowly and possibly meander over parts of Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan and neighboring Uttar Pradesh, for the subsequent 48-72hr. The system is unlikely to travel very far over Rajasthan and may take recurving track towards north and northeast.

Under the influence of this system, southern parts of Madhya Pradesh including Khargone, Khandwa , Pachmarhi and Chhindwara  received heavy rainfall. Rainfall belt extended to reach parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada and Telangana.  More heavy rains are likely over Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan and Southeast and South Uttar Pradesh over the next 3 days. Showers may be extending to lash the national capital around mid week.  Later, the remnant of the system as cyclonic circulation will travel across West Uttar Pradesh, Central parts of the state and finally East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, in a staggered manner.

The track of this system will draw  the withdrawal line of monsoon. Monsoon retreat is always retrospective. There is another system coming up over North Bay of Bengal around 18thSeptember. The leftover of the current system will get subsumed by the fresh weather system. However, the track may not extend deep in to Rajasthan. This pattern may stipulate commencement of withdrawal from West Rajasthan, anytime after 25thSep. It also means, that national capital will see a delayed retreat of monsoon this season.
