Kolkata has been witnessing light to moderate rains the fag end of June with a few heavy spells also adding on to the rainfall list. In fact, July also kick started with good spells and it seems that rain gods are in full mood to give a sigh of relief to the residents of Kolkata from the prevailing humid weather conditions.
In the last 24 hours, from 08:30m as on Sunday, Kolkata witnessed 15 mm of rains. Though the capital of West Bengal has been recording rains since the month began, it is expected that good rains will not stop showing over the city today as well and keep on showering upon in parts of the city for another 24 hours.

As per Skymet Weather, at present, a trough is seen extending from Rajasthan to northeast Bay of Bengal across Gangetic West Bengal. In the wake of this weather system, on and off rains are expected to continue over the city. Though rains may subside after 24 hours for a short duration, on and off spells will keep on occurring over the state capital. Temperatures will remain in lower 30’s.

However, being to the close proximity to the Bay of Bengal, the humidity level is high over the region. Hence, on account of the absence of rain over the city, the uncomfortable weather is what the residents of Kolkata would have to deal with.
The average monthly rainfall for Kolkata for the month of June stands at 300.6 mm and the city had recorded 193 mm of rains in June which are almost half of its monthly average. Whereas, the average monthly mean for July for the city is 396 mm and till date, the city has just managed to see 49.5 mm of rains. Hence, it is still a wait and watch scenario of the city manages to surpass its monthly rainfall mean.
