All the Monsoon system during July right from the 3rd week moved across the central parts of the country, resulting in excess rains over Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh. Only the last ten days, saw active Monsoon, shifting to East India resulting in few widespread heavy to very heavy rains.

In July also, as per July 15, Bihar was rain deficient by 40% and parts of Uttar Pradesh i.e. West and East Uttar Pradesh were rain deficient by 41% and 42% respectively. Further also same pattern continued, and both the states reached their peak rain deficiency of the season. Thus, as of July 20, Bihar become rain deficient by 48%, West Uttar Pradesh 43% and East Uttar Pradesh 49%.

But from July 21 onwards, scattered moderate rainfall activity commenced in many parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Further also rains continued for a few days and heavy showers also occurred over few places. During this period, parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar received two to three times more rains than their daily normal rainfall.

After these on and off rains, as of July 31, Bihar is rain deficient by 23%, East Uttar Pradesh by 19%, but West Uttar Pradesh is rain surplus by 8%.

Talking about the agricultural aspects, we can say that the late of appearance of rains was just in time for the agricultural belts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh as the good rainfall activity in the past few days has saved the crops from major damage.

Further also, as the low-pressure area lies over central parts of Uttar Pradesh, we expect rains to continue over Bihar and Uttar Pradesh for the next 2-3 days. Flood like situation is also a possibility due to heavy rains in some areas.
