Monsoon rains likely over most parts of Maharashtra, Marathwada to remain dry

The state of Maharashtra has a mixed bag in terms of Monsoon performance this time. While Marathwada region is slightly below normal in terms of rains so far, other parts of the state have seen either normal or above normal rainfall activities.

The last 24 hours gave some rainfall activity over Konkan region and some other parts of Maharashtra. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Mahabaleshwar saw a whopping 54 mm of rainfall, Sholapur 16 mm, Thane 19 mm, Kolhapur 9 mm, Alibag 7 mm, Pune 3 mm, Harnai 5 mm, and Ratnagiri 7 mm.

An upper air cyclonic circulation is over northern parts of Coastal Odisha which is tilting southwestwards with extension of height. Under the influence of this system, Vidarbha will see cloudy sky conditions, eastern parts of Vidarbha will see light to moderate rains during the next 24 to 36 hours. Day temperatures will see a marginal increase.

Konkan and Goa coast will see light to moderate rains as an upper air cyclonic circulation is over Goa Coast at upper tropospheric levels. The southern parts of Madhya Maharashtra will see light rains. However, Marathwada will remain dry and warm.

Mumbai and suburbs will also see light to moderate rains during the next 24 to 36 hours, Thereafter, rains will gradually decrease.
