Monsoon rains play hide and seek in Kolkata

August 12, 2016 2:32 PM |

Kolkata Rains 1

After giving some good rain over Kolkata,  the Monsoon activity is about to take a brief break. In the last 24 hours, the city received good rains. The Dumdum observatory received 42.8 mm of rainfall whereas the Alipore observatory received 2.7 mm of rains but overall the city received good rains.

But these rainfall figures are about to change as the depression over Jharkhand and West Bengal has weakened. And this weather system is moving away from the state as it weakens paving the way for the humid weather to march past over the region.

Mainly dry and humid weather will persist over the city of joy for the next 24 hours. Only few short spells rain may happen over the scattered regions of Kolkata. The sky is expected to be partly cloudy with day time temperatures to rise.

After 24 hours, there may be some increase in the cloud cover over the city.

Another fresh weather system is brewing in the Bay of Bengal near the coastal parts of West Bengal. This system is expected to give more rains around August 16.

At present the state of West Bengal is experiencing rainfall of 6% above than the normal with Gangetic West Bengal at 4% above than the normal rainfall. And Kolkata is also experiencing normal rainfall but it is 10% less than the normal.
