Monsoon reaches Uttar Pradesh; Rain in Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Allahabad

The state of Uttar Pradesh has not received much rain during the pre-Monsoon period. In fact, rains remained far and few even when Southwest Monsoon hit parts of Uttar Pradesh. The weather continued to be mostly dry and humid across maximum part of the region.

Southwest Monsoon has covered entire East Uttar Pradesh and parts of West Uttar Pradesh and currently the Northern limit of Monsoon is passing through Barmer, Kota, Gwalior, Bareilly, Mukteshwar, Dharamsala, Bhadarwa and Pahalgam.

For the month of June, East Uttar Pradesh is deficit by 53 percent, while West Uttar Pradesh is rain surplus by 15 percent.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Bareilly received 58 mm of rain followed by 28 mm of rain in Muzaffarnagar. Other areas to have received rains include Varanasi 12 mm, Meerut 11 mm, Shahjahanpur and Moradabad 3 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, at present a trough is extending from North of Rajasthan to East Assam across South Uttar Pradesh. This system is likely to become more active during the next 24 hours. Therefore, the rainfall activity will increase considerably over the eastern regions of the state. Heavy falls may occur over few places. Moderate to intense lightning strikes also cannot be ruled out over some parts.

Particularly, the northern and central parts of Uttar Pradesh will record good rain and thundershowers during the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, southwest parts of the state will receive light rain and thundershowers.
