At 129 mm, Bengaluru witness record breaking rains in August

Unexpected heavy rains lashed Bengaluru last night, leaving several parts of the city inundated. This is the highest rainfall recorded in the month of August.

So far in August this year, the garden city has only observed traces of rainfall with isolated light or moderate spells.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Bengaluru recorded a whopping 129 mm of rainfall. Due to this, roads are flooded making travel problematic. In fact, emergency relief work is being carried out over the area.

This rapid increase in the rainfall activity can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over South Tamil Nadu Coast. Another cyclonic circulation is marked over Lakshadweep and adjoining areas.

As per Skymet Weather, light to moderate rains will continue with isolated heavy spells for the next 2 to 3 days. The weather will remain pleasant and the sky will remain partly cloudy to overcast.

The day maximums will continue to settle around 27°C or 28°C, whereas night temperatures may be around 19°C or 20°C.

So far in August, the city has recorded 174 mm of rains against the monthly average rainfall of 147 mm. Hence, it is very much evident that the cyber city has already surpassed its monthly average rainfall.
